Redmi S2 review

Last May, Xiaomi launched the Redmi S2 where this device is the first smartphone selfie from Xiaomi targeting the lower middle class. Priced at Rp. 2,399,000, Redmi S2 is not like some other Xiaomi smartphones that always present with bombastic prices and become the target of consumers. The Redmi S2 is not so much exposed and is the subject of net talk, perhaps even from the MiFans themselves. Moreover, this device was launched shortly after the Redmi Note 5 product was launched, it is quite natural that Redmi S2 was slightly drowned out by the Xiaomi line up which was targeted by many people.

But of course we are also quite curious as to what the capabilities of the Redmi S2 really are. Is this the first selfie smartphone from Xiaomi enough to be taken into account? For more details see the reviews.
By design, the Redmi S2 also looks a little different from the other Redmi series. Where this device carries metallic material with a body that looks flat and wide on the back and rounded edges tapered on the sides. There are accents of two strips on the top and bottom corners, enough to make this device look more stylish.
Redmi S2 must have also used a screen design with an 18: 9 fullview ratio and 6 inch size. But the device bezel still looks rather thick at the top and bottom. Even though the navigation button was also placed on the inside of the screen.
For this gold colored variant, the front panel has a white bezel. For some reason, we feel that this blend of colors has been too mainstream, and makes this smartphone look normal when viewed from the front section. It would be more interesting if the front bezel also has the same color as the back, namely gold.

This device has a precision body size of 160.7 x 77.3 with a thickness of 8.1 mm, not so thick felt in the grip but this device feels to have a large weight. Redmi S2 has a weight of 170 grams.
The camera module is positioned vertically with the flash in the middle part in the top corner, and the fingerprint is in the middle. Three color variants offered are Rose gold, Gold and Dark Gray. The gold color variant offered for the Redmi S2 also doesn't look "yellow" as usual.
On the right side there is the power button and also the volume button, while on the left side there is a SIMcard tray. On the bottom side there is a microUSB slot for charging needs and also data transfer while at the top there is a 3.5mm jack hole for the headset and IR blaster sensor.
Turning to the specifications section, actually Redmi S2 simply carries the specifications that are actually quite interesting. Where this device has used a 6-inch screen with HD + resolution and carries the Snapdragon 625 SoC. For RAM and internal storage, the device we tested uses 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

From the camera side also on paper has similarities where the main camera that is carried is dual sensor with the main sensor 12MP f / 2.2, 1.25μm, PDAF). While the secondary sensor to measure the depth using a smaller sensor is 5 MP. But at the front of the camera which is the advantage of this product as a selfie smartphone, it carries a larger sensor that is 16MP.
'Sensors in the Redmi S2 are quite complete starting from the accelerometer, ambience light, compas, proximity, until the gyroscope is available. Plus IR blaster is the mainstay of every Xiaomi product.

The Redmi S2 has a triple slot on the SIM card tray where two SIM slots are nano-type and also a MicroSD slot for additional storage. Of course this device has supported all 4G networks in the country. But for Wi-Fi connectivity unfortunately this device does not support the 5G wi-fi network.
The battery capacity offered is not so great if you see the large screen size, which is only 3080mAh. But this certainly is not a definite measure whether this smartphone has a good battery life or not. More complete testing will be discussed on the next page.

In terms of completeness of the box, like most other Xiaomi Redmi S2 products are still not equipped with a headset unit. The contents of the sales package from Redmi S2 include charger adapters, USB cables, guidebooks and warranty cards, as well as silicon jelly.
